US Forest Service

Posting by John and Sandy MacLaughlin:

Something is missing on Pigeon Lake and that is very good news!  In August 2013 the U. S. Forest Service sent out a 15 member crew led by Consultant Eric North and including LOC youth to spend 5 days hand pulling Canadian thistle up to the high water mark to combat the spread of this very invasive species.    The purpose was to protect Fassett's locoweed, a rare and endangered plant.  Check out www.fws.gov/midwest/endangered/plants/5yr ; for photos and more details
