Freshwater Jellyfish!!!

Yes, freshwater jellyfish have been reported in Pigeon Lake. They came a long way to visit us - indigenous to the Yangtze River valley in China. But they are now common almost globally in temperate climates. Per the DNR freshwater jellyfish have been reported in about 76 Wisconsin Lakes and the number continues to grow.

From my reading they don't appear to be any real problem. They tend to be found in clear water lakes; are generally not considered to be a predator of eggs or small fish; and, perhaps best, are not considered dangerous to humans and their stingers unlikely to penetrate human skin.

We can probably live comfortably with them. If you google freshwater jellyfish you will find lots of information - most likely more than you want.

By the way the size of the jellyfish is that of a 'penny'.
